Local Anaesthesia

Local anaesthesia is the most commonly used method of providing painless dental treatment. It refers to techniques used to numb a specific area of the body or temporarily block the sensation of pain in that area.

Local anaesthesia for dental treatment is administered by injecting a local anaesthetic. The anaesthetic blocks the transmission of pain signals between the affected area and the brain by temporarily blocking nerve fibres.

The injection itself can also be made virtually painless at the patient’s request by first applying a topical anaesthetic to numb the injection site. This allows the entire dental procedure to be carried out virtually pain-free.
